My wife’s running medals were cluttering up the house hanging from various sconces and shelves, so we decided that they needed a home on one wall. I like mini-projects like these, because I get to go hide in the workshop for a little bit and come out with something that makes my wife happy. As a bonus she then puts up with the workshop the rest of the time when it is full of old car parts and small engines in various states of disrepair. The letters are wood and were purchased pre-cut. We cut up some old race bibs and and attached them to the letters with clear coat. I drilled some pilot holes for the brass mug hooks and attached sawtooth mounts to the back. I also used stick-on felt furniture feet so that they sit parallel to the wall. I don’t really share her love of running - I prefer to drive and/or mountain bike - but I pretty happy with the final product.

Nice. Can I email brother, who failed to call me when he was in town last week, this pic? He and his wife are avid runners. She’s one of those crazy people who get a Goofy medal down at Walt Disney World.

I have an irrational hatred of overt displays of running enthusiasm. People who accumulate and display running paraphernalia make me want to punch them. It takes all of my self control to not destroy my car by smashing into every car I see with a damned 13.1 sticker on it. I’m like Worf saying “ah fuck it might as well ram my ship into that Borg cube over there!”

I don’t really get it either. Happily, she seems willing to keep it to the one display. And so far no 26.2 stickers on either of the cars.

So a minor project (reads like it should only take about 8 hours with most of that waiting on the clear to dry while you have a few beers) earns you a year of no complaints about your shop?
I think my wife needs to take up running.
